Everything worth knowing about Røky.
01What is Røky?
Røky is a free climbing companion app. It pairs a community-built map of gyms and outdoor crags — with hand-drawn route topos, ascent logging and projects — with structured training: hangboard workouts, a tabata interval timer, endurance sessions, boulder and route tracking, six assessment protocols, a training calendar and analytics. It is in private beta; the list is how you get early access.
02Is Røky free?
Yes, Røky is completely free to use. All core features — workouts, timers, tracking, analytics, assessment tests, gym discovery, and XP progression — are included at no cost. You can optionally support development through the in-app 'Buy Me a Coffee' feature.
03What workout types are available?
Røky offers four workout categories: Hangboard (fingerboard training with configurable hold types, hang types, and timing), Tabata (customizable interval timer with work/rest/cool-down phases), Endurance (aerobic capacity and power-endurance circuits), and Boulder & Routes (session logging with grade tracking across V-Scale, Font, YDS, and French).
04Does it work offline?
Yes. Røky uses a local-first architecture — all your workouts, sessions, and data are stored on your device and work without an internet connection. When you're back online, everything syncs automatically to the cloud.
05What assessment tests are available?
Røky includes six guided assessment protocols: Finger Strength (with four variations — edge lift, half crimp, open crimp, front 3 open drag), Weighted Pull-Up, Max Hang (20s), Max Pull-Ups, Lock-Off Hold, and Core Hold. Each test includes step-by-step instructions, a guided timer, and tracks your personal records over time.
06Can I create custom workouts?
Yes. You can build fully custom hangboard workouts with configurable hold types, hold sizes, hang types, set counts, rep amounts, active time, and rest periods. Custom tabata and endurance configurations are also saveable for quick reuse.
07Can I find gyms and outdoor crags?
Yes. The Explore tab is a community-built directory of climbing gyms and outdoor crags. Filter by style, grade range, price, distance, rating, and facilities. Each spot includes photos, hours, classes, events, contact info, and routes you can log directly. New spots are submitted and verified by climbers.
08How does the XP and tier system work?
You earn XP for contributing: completing workouts, logging ascents, writing reviews, and submitting spots that get approved — with bonus XP for harder grades. XP moves you through five tiers, from Guppy to Spider Monkey. The tiers are not just cosmetic: they are authority badges, so climbers who contribute most carry the most weight in a community-curated map. There is a leaderboard, and you can ignore it — your own progress compounds either way.
09How do reviews and community submissions work?
You can review any gym or crag across five dimensions: overall, environment, facilities, staff, and value. You can also submit new gyms and outdoor spots that aren't in the database yet — submissions are verified by other climbers in the community before going live, so listings stay accurate.
10What languages does the app support?
Røky is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French, with full localization across all screens, instructions, and content.
11Is my data backed up?
Yes. All workout data, session history, assessment results, and profile information are automatically synced to Firebase cloud. Your data is safe even if you switch devices.
12When can I get it?
Røky is in private beta right now. Beta testers get access first — join the list and we will email you as soon as there is a build you can install.
